Experts believe that in the next 5 years, there will be approximately 50 billion objects in the IoT.
Basically, the “things” in the Internet of Things is not only limited to electronics or other technologies, it can be any device that includes a biochip (ex: farm animals), monitoring implants and many more devices that can be interconnected to achieve a single purpose or goal. In any operating environment, the interconnection of these devices in a network will be very useful in collecting relevant data through the assistance of a variety of technologies in which the data will automatically flow thru all devices.
Today, the Internet of Things is a big help in a variety of industries particularly in media, infrastructure management, manufacturing, environmental monitoring, medical systems, transportation and many more. With this innovation in technological advances, people are gaining the benefits of the convenience it provides. A large majority of technology experts agree to the notion that the Internet of Things will remain a dynamic system even in the next years. It’s advantages are so significant that a multitude of aspects of society will depend on it.
Consisting of a variety of devices interconnected to the Internet; IoT addresses the need for operating a group of devices in a single environment. Internet of Things can also perform a series of actions aside from sensing things or objects. Say for example in an intelligent shopping system, a particular user can be monitored when purchasing something in the store through tracing their particular mobile phone. In this case, IoT performs the task of identifying the specific purchasing habit of the individual. IoT can also determine the location of the item without the need of any tracking device because the electronic component connected to the system can already serve as tracking device.
